Executives expecting AI to cut costs by replacing workers are stunned by high, usage-based AI bills instead.
Business leaders are increasingly confused by the true cost of AI adoption, having assumed that automating or replacing human workers would deliver large savings.
A KPMG report cited by TechRadar found nearly a third of executives struggle to understand their organization's AI operating costs. The shift to usage - and consumption - based pricing means expenses scale unpredictably rather than dropping.
As a result, anticipated savings from layoffs are being offset by infrastructure, API, and operational spending, exposing a gap between C-suite expectations and the economics of enterprise AI.
