OpenAI makes GPT-5.6 generally available in three tiers - Sol, Terra, and Luna - across ChatGPT, Codex, and the API.
OpenAI announced general availability of the GPT-5.6 family across ChatGPT, ChatGPT Work, Codex, and the OpenAI API, following a government-coordinated limited preview.
The lineup introduces durable capability tiers: Sol for frontier reasoning and long-horizon agentic work, Terra as a balanced everyday model at roughly half the cost of GPT-5.5, and Luna as the fastest, lowest-cost option. Sol sets new records in coding and reasoning benchmarks while using fewer tokens and less time than prior models.
Short-context API pricing is $5/$30 for Sol, $2.50/$15 for Terra, and $1/$6 for Luna per 1M input/output tokens.
