A New Ransomware Leader Emerges as June 2026 Attack Volumes Climb Worldwide

Check Point's June 2026 threat report shows attacks rising and The Gentlemen displacing Qilin as top ransomware group.

Check Point's monthly threat report reveals a significant escalation in global cyberattacks, with weekly attacks per organization reaching 2,270 in June, a 10% monthly and 17% year-over-year increase.

Education, government, and telecommunications were the hardest-hit sectors, and ransomware incidents surged 33% versus June 2025.

The Gentlemen ransomware group displaced Qilin as the leading extortion operation, capturing 17% of published attacks in its first year through pre-exploited devices and aggressive affiliate recruitment.

The report also flags GenAI prompt security risks, noting 1 in every 26 enterprise GenAI prompts carried a high risk of sensitive data exposure.
