IBM Launches Compact z17 and LinuxONE Systems to Address Data Center Space and Cost Constraints
IBM, Tuesday, July 7th, 2026
IBM launches compact, rack-mount z17 and LinuxONE 5 systems to help data centers save space and cut costs.
IBM introduced new compact configurations of its z17 and LinuxONE 5 systems, adding rack-mount options alongside single-frame systems across its full portfolio for the first time.
The systems support up to 82 cores and 18TB of memory, roughly 20% more cores and 12% more memory than the prior generation, to address limited data center space and high power-rental costs.
IBM also added management software and security enhancements, including standard post-quantum cryptography, with hardware generally available August 12, 2026.
