Data Sovereignty Doesn't Stop at Production

Veeam, Thursday, October 29th, 2026

Veeam says data sovereignty must cover backups, copies and replicas, and explains four questions Veeam Data Platform helps answer with proof.

The post notes IT teams usually know where production data lives but are less sure about every backup, copy and replica, which regulations such as GDPR and NIS2 also cover.

Sovereignty is framed as questions about flow (where data moves), access (who can reach it, including support providers) and more.

Risks include a copy job sending data across a border to a cheaper region, an unchecked cloud repository region, or provider support access from outside the jurisdiction.

Auditors want evidence, not written policy, and manual tracking does not scale.
