Fortinet turns its firewall footprint into an AI security on-ramp

SiliconANGLE, Thursday, October 29th, 2026

Fortinet's new FortiGuard Inline AI Security Service lets FortiGate firewalls inspect AI prompts, responses and MCP traffic via a subscription.

Fortinet announced a cloud-delivered subscription that adds AI-specific inspection and guardrails to FortiGate firewalls, covering prompts, model responses and Model Context Protocol tool traffic in real time.

The engine is FortiAIGate, which gained new capabilities including technology from the Virtue AI acquisition closed in August.

The analyst argues that most AI security products require new proxies, gateways or integrations, whereas turning on a service on the installed firewall base is a policy decision rather than a deployment project.

It notes rivals Palo Alto, Check Point, F5 and Cisco have all bought AI security startups.
