Nvidia's Mark Weatherford says CISOs must help leaders weigh AI's risks and rewards and ensure those deploying AI own the risks they create.
Dark Reading reports from the ISC2 Strategic Congress 2026 in Denver, where Nvidia's Mark Weatherford, a former DHS deputy undersecretary for cybersecurity, discussed how AI is reshaping the CISO role.
He said speed of change is the biggest challenge and warned that fear of missing out is driving some AI deployments without proper due diligence.
He urged CISOs to avoid defaulting to no, to accept calibrated risk, and to keep learning, while making sure boards know who owns each AI risk.
He also favors paid internships for AI-native recruits and keeping clear career paths to retain staff.
