I Don't Think the World Needs a New GitHub: What GitHub's Leaders Really Think About Their New Rivals
The New Stack, Thursday, October 29th, 2026
At Universe 26, GitHub leaders dismissed rivals like Thomas Dohmke's Entire and detailed a rebuild of GitHub's infrastructure for AI agents.
The New Stack's Frederic Lardinois reports from GitHub Universe 26, where GitHub announced 4 million more cores, 160 petabytes of storage and a backend rearchitecture.
COO Kyle Daigle said the world does not need a new GitHub after former CEO Thomas Dohmke launched rival Entire, and Dohmke replied that developers clearly do.
Daigle and Microsoft CoreAI EVP Jay Parikh said agents caused unexpected service failures, prompting rewrites, separation of compute from storage in Git infrastructure and a move to Azure.
Daigle pledged to keep free repositories free, wants to rethink parts of Git, and expects verification to become the next bottleneck.
