Design and Specifications Are Not What Is in Your Infrastructure

DevOps.com, Thursday, October 29th, 2026

Lansweeper CTO Guido Patanella argues diagrams and specs rarely match production, and cyber asset intelligence is needed to see what really runs.

In a DevOps.com piece, Guido Patanella, CTO of Lansweeper, says repositories, diagrams and service catalogs describe intended systems, while production accumulates forgotten services, orphaned APIs and manual changes.

He cites MuleSoft figures that the average organization runs 957 applications with only 27 percent connected, leaving developers to act as the integration layer.

He argues technical debt is also dependency debt, that platform consolidation and vulnerability governance need runtime evidence, and that AI agents raise the stakes because they need accurate context on systems, ownership and permissions.

He promotes cyber asset intelligence as the way to close that gap.
