Datadog Builds a Specialist AI Model for SRE Investigations

InfoQ, Thursday, October 29th, 2026

Datadog released Scout, a specialist model for SRE alert investigations, in closed preview within its Bits Investigation product.

Datadog has built Scout, a model trained to investigate production problems inside Bits Investigation, its AI SRE product, because general-purpose models are too costly to run on every alert.

Scout is based on GLM-5.3 Flash and post-trained with reinforcement learning on simulated incidents that Datadog says contain no customer data.

On Datadog's AlertEval benchmark it scored similarly to leading frontier models at an estimated 3 to 8 times lower inference cost, and it resolved up to 80 of 90 SREGym faults, though critics note the benchmarks are mostly Datadog's own.

Scout is in closed preview, stops at diagnosis and has no general availability date.
