AI Agents Are Upending Digital Business Processes

InfoWorld, Friday, October 30th, 2026

David Linthicum says consumer AI agents acting in bank and other accounts are forcing businesses to rethink access, risk and liability.

In this InfoWorld opinion piece, David Linthicum notes that people are using cloud-based AI agents to move money, pay bills, analyze spending and cancel subscriptions.

Citing an Axios report, he says major US banks are detecting outside AI agents in customer accounts, sometimes using shared credentials, and several are restricting or blocking that access.

He describes a conflict between customers who believe they authorized agents and policies that prohibit credential sharing, and says the issue extends to airlines, insurers, retailers and SaaS platforms, with liability unclear.

He recommends classifying actions by risk, defining agent access models, improving telemetry and offering sanctioned delegated access or APIs.
