Securing Thin Edge Locations Doesn't Need to Be Complicated

Fortinet, Tuesday, October 27th, 2026

Fortinet explains how to secure thin edge sites like microbranches, home offices and pop-up locations without on-site firewalls.

Fortinet describes thin edge locations as sites that minimize on-site hardware in favor of cloud-based resources, such as kiosks, ATMs, microbranches, home offices and temporary pop-up sites.

These sites often host IoT devices that cannot run security agents and lack local IT staff, yet need the same security as the corporate network.

Using its FortiLink protocol, Fortinet switches and access points can route traffic back to FortiOS for inspection.

Options include FortiSASE, a remote FortiGate appliance or virtual machine, and FortiGate-as-a-Service.
