Cisco Rethinks Privileged Infrastructure Access

Cisco, Monday, October 26th, 2026

Cisco introduces Privileged Infrastructure Access, using identity-bound, short-lived privileges for admins and AI agents on networks.

Cisco argues that AI is making advanced attacks cheaper and faster, citing an incident in which an autonomous AI agent chained weaknesses using overly broad credentials, so standing privileged access has become dangerous.

It notes network device access often still relies on long-lived credentials and shared accounts outside workforce identity controls.

Cisco's new Privileged Infrastructure Access gives administrators and agents a secure, identity-bound path to infrastructure with short-lived, least-privilege access that expires when the task ends, plus session recording.

It builds on Cisco ISE and TACACS+ context and extends to servers, Kubernetes and cloud resources.
