Ubuntu 26.10 Is Here, but Should You Leave 26.04 LTS for It?

How-To Geek, Wednesday, October 21st, 2026

Ubuntu 26.10 adds GNOME 51 and Linux 7.3 with better Snapdragon X support, but most 26.04 LTS users can stay put.

How-To Geek weighs whether to move from Ubuntu 26.04 LTS to the new interim release, Ubuntu 26.10 'Stonking Stingray'.

It brings GNOME 51 with smoother animations, Files improvements, automatic touchpad disabling when a mouse is connected, and easier multi-monitor arrangement.

Linux kernel 7.3 replaces 7.0 and expands support for Qualcomm Snapdragon X Elite and X Plus, with early X2 Elite support.

The author concludes the changes are mostly refinements, so LTS users only need to upgrade for specific hardware or features, given the shorter support window.
