Tokenomics: Curating New Cost and Trust Dimensions of Enterprise AI

diginomica, Friday, October 23rd, 2026

New surveys find that finance leaders feel pushed to adopt AI too fast and trust its accuracy, yet few demand proof, audit trails or approvals.

Chris Middleton examines new enterprise AI research and argues that hype, not strategic need, is driving purchasing decisions.

AccountsIQ's CFO Mindset 2026 survey of 1,036 UK and Irish finance leaders found 82% feel pressured to adopt AI faster than they are comfortable with, while 96% trust the accuracy of AI-surfaced financial data.

Their hesitation comes from not knowing how to use AI, and 76% fear it taking over decisions that used to be theirs.

Middleton finds it troubling that only about a quarter want to see error rates, approve AI-generated entries or have an audit trail, and he links this to FOMO-driven AI use that burns through tokens and budgets.
