Myna Speech-to-Text Is Now Available as a Technology Preview

Ubuntu, Monday, October 12th, 2026

Canonical's Myna brings private, on-device speech-to-text dictation to Ubuntu Desktop as a technology preview.

Canonical made Myna, its local speech-to-text dictation project for Ubuntu Desktop and an optional Ubuntu 26.10 feature, available as a technology preview.

Users press a shortcut and speak, and Myna transcribes directly into the active application with real-time visual feedback.

Recognition runs entirely on the machine, so audio is not uploaded or stored once a model is downloaded, and Myna supports engines including Parakeet, Whisper and FunASR.
