What the C-Suite Needs to Know About AI Governance
Cybersecurity Dive, Thursday, October 8th, 2026
Firms are adopting AI faster than they govern it, and few have assigned clear ownership of AI risk.
A PwC survey of more than 3,900 leaders in 71 countries found that protecting AI systems is the largest preparedness gap, ahead of cloud threats, third-party breaches and ransomware.
Less than 30% of AI accountability sits with technology leaders and only 17% with the CISO, so experts advise treating every agent as a new identity with a named human owner, and KPMG found 49% of organizations now restrict agent access in high-risk scenarios.
Third-party AI features and shadow AI also create visibility gaps, so vendors need security vetting.
