How CIOs Can Climb Out of the AI Governance Chasm
InformationWeek, Friday, October 9th, 2026
AI governance is losing the race against adoption, and CIOs' jobs may depend on closing the gap.
A Dataiku survey of 685 CIOs found 84% say employees create AI agents and apps faster than IT can govern them, and a OneTrust survey found under half of organizations have clear governance controls.
Some 76% of CIOs think their role is at risk without measurable AI gains by the end of next year, and only 21% have full visibility into AI agent and workload costs.
CIOs interviewed also raise quality concerns, such as whether AI-generated code is introducing bugs into production.
