Cloudflare Open Sources Decision Models for AI Agents
InfoQ, Thursday, October 8th, 2026
Cloudflare releases Clef, open-weight 9B and 27B models that pick between predefined options to help AI agents make decisions.
During its Birthday Week, Cloudflare announced Clef, open-weight multimodal models that classify inputs and return probabilities for typed options instead of generating text.
The 27B Clef model handles text, JSON, images and video with a 64K context window, while the 9B Clef-Flash targets low-latency decisions at a 38.8 ms median, letting agents on Cloudflare's edge GPUs decide whether to route, escalate or defer to a human.
Hacker News commenters questioned whether decision models are really a new category.
