Securing Agent-to-Agent Communication: The Next Identity Frontier
Rapid7, Tuesday, October 6th, 2026
Rapid7 argues autonomous AI agents must be treated as first-class identities, with delegation, behavior and tool use monitored.
Rapid7 says security architectures built for human users and static APIs break down when autonomous AI agents delegate tasks to one another.
It identifies five challenges: identity and delegation chaining, behavioral drift, tool and protocol abuse, cascading access from compromised high-privilege agents, and observability gaps.
Using an example of a secondary agent that queries a database via MCP and sends data externally, Rapid7 recommends bringing agent identities, delegation paths, tool calls and data access into existing detection workflows.
