How Manufacturers Can Keep One Breach From Stopping the Plant

Illumio, Friday, October 9th, 2026

Illumio offers segmentation and access advice as manufacturing ransomware incidents rise nearly 40% in 2026.

Illumio opens with the July ransomware attack claimed by Anubis that halted US production at Coca-Cola's Fairlife dairy business, and cites Black Kite data showing 1,183 disclosed manufacturing ransomware incidents from January 1 to July 29, 2026, nearly 40% more than the same period in 2025.

Illumio's Trevor Dearing warns that engineering workstations are a lateral-movement path.

Recommendations include mapping production, auditing protocols, segmenting IT from OT and within plants, controlling vendor access and preparing a 'big red button' in advance.
