Lakebase and Agentic SDLC: Branching Databases for Coding Agents

Databricks, Thursday, October 8th, 2026

Databricks shows how Lakebase copy-on-write branching gives each parallel coding agent its own isolated database.

Databricks argues that shared dev or staging databases are an overlooked bottleneck for parallel coding agents, causing schema conflicts, interference or unrealistic mocks.

Lakebase Postgres addresses this with sub-second, scale-to-zero copy-on-write branches, and the post shows Git worktrees plus a Claude Code hook that gives each agent its own branch.

It also demonstrates GitHub Actions that create an ephemeral branch per pull request, run Drizzle migrations, deploy a Databricks Apps preview and post a schema diff, along with point-in-time bug reproduction and masked production-derived data.
