The Tableau Knowledge Engine: How We Built Trustworthy Agentic Analytics
Salesforce, Wednesday, September 30th, 2026
Tableau explains its knowledge engine, a runtime layer giving analytics agents a reliable understanding of business meaning.
Tableau argues AI agents have exposed a gap in how business knowledge is represented, and that existing BI stacks are not built for systems that need to reason.
Its answer is a knowledge engine that sits across systems and can be used at runtime by agents, rather than a static semantic layer or standalone knowledge graph, since much of the needed knowledge already exists but is scattered across visualizations, workbooks, data sources, wikis and people's heads.
Without that grounding, agents guess at metrics, which can lead to failed strategic decisions.
