What Is CTEM? A Practical Guide to Continuous Threat Exposure Management

Network Intelligence News, Wednesday, September 30th, 2026

A practical guide to CTEM's five stages and why prioritizing by reachability and business impact beats CVSS-only scoring.

The guide explains Continuous Threat Exposure Management as a five-stage program of scoping, discovery, prioritization, validation and mobilization, defined by Gartner in 2022.

It argues that ranking findings by reachability and business impact catches exposures CVSS-only scoring misses, including issues with no CVE, and that validation, often just an annual pentest, is the least continuous stage.

The post also treats third-party access as part of the exposure surface and stresses showing what is measured versus unscored.
