Lakebase Postgres Branch-Based Restores for Fast Recovery at Scale

Databricks, Thursday, October 1st, 2026

Lakebase Postgres uses branch-based restores to recover even 100 TB databases in seconds instead of hours.

Traditional managed OLTP restores are slow and get slower with size, requiring new compute, large snapshot downloads and log replay, so the largest production databases wait longest.

Lakebase Postgres instead performs branch-based restores as a metadata operation that points to immutable history in decoupled storage rather than copying data, and Databricks says a 100 TB database can be restored in seconds.

The approach also lets AI agents use branching and undo workflows safely.
