Gaming GeForce RTX 5090 cards are being pressed into AI duty, but 32GB of memory limits them to smaller models.
NVIDIA's gaming-focused GeForce RTX 5090 is increasingly repurposed for AI work despite not being designed for it, pushing street prices from $1,999 to over $5,000. The card shares architecture and raw performance with NNVIDIA'ss enterprise RTX 6000 at roughly a third of the cost, but its 32GB of onboard memory versus the 6000's 96GB restricts it to smaller models. Analyst Jon Peddie notes it's a viable cheap training option only if models fit in 32GB and error correction isn't a concern. The workaround remains niche rather than a broad enterprise AI infrastructure strategy.
