Trust, but Verify: Atomic Claim Checking Against LLM Hallucinations
Elastic, Thursday, September 24th, 2026
Elastic used atomic claim checking to safely let an LLM merge duplicate knowledge base articles, clearing a four-year backlog.
Elastic describes how it made an LLM safe enough to merge duplicate support knowledge base articles, a task that had gone undone for four years because reconciling articles claim by claim was too tedious to do at scale.
A naive LLM merge produced clean, readable output but silently dropped prerequisite steps, drifted version constraints, and in one case fabricated a parameter that never existed. Elastic's fix split the task into separate generation and atomic claim verification steps, checking each individual claim in the merged output against the source articles before accepting it.
This cleared the backlog while catching hallucinations the naive approach missed.
