AI Is Over Budget. Who Picks Up the Bill?

Enterprise AI spending overruns force organizations to seek supplemental funding and reallocate resources.
According to Futurum's analysis of 767 organizations with AI budget overruns, 47.6% pursued additional budget approval while 43.3% absorbed costs into next cycle planning.
Many reallocated funds from other IT budgets (38.7%) or shifted expenses to non-IT business units (23.1%). Only 17.2% reduced AI scope. The survey reveals how infrastructure efficiency choices and pricing models are becoming critical, with specialized processors and reserved compute options offering more predictable economics for sustained inference workloads.
