Micron looks at how on-device generative AI that reasons, plans and remembers changes client memory requirements.

Micron's Alejandro Breton Garcia writes that generative AI is becoming woven into everyday work, evolving from simple chat interactions into systems that reason, plan, remember context and execute tasks.

That shift changes what local computing has to support, because persistent context and multi-step execution consume memory on the client device rather than in a data center.

The post walks through what those workloads mean for DRAM capacity and bandwidth in PCs and edge systems. Micron uses the analysis to make the case for rethinking memory configuration as local AI becomes a default rather than an exception.
