From Alliance to Apache: The Next Chapter for Open Semantics

The Open Semantic Interchange entered the Apache Incubator as Apache Ossie, backed by a coalition of 50+ data and AI leaders.
Salesforce reports that the Open Semantic Interchange has entered the Apache Incubator as Apache Ossie (Incubating), backed by a growing coalition of more than 50 data and AI companies.
The problem it addresses is semantic drift: as every tool and data platform introduces its own semantic layer to power AI, the same business term ends up meaning different things in analytics dashboards, ad-hoc query tools and agent contexts.
Moving the specification into an Apache project gives it neutral governance rather than vendor ownership. Salesforce argues that neutrality is what makes broad adoption possible. The post frames the move as the next chapter for open semantics rather than a completed standard.
