Akamai Valkey Managed Database: Real-Time Memory for Enterprise AI

Akamai Technologies, Tuesday, August 18th, 2026

Akamai launches a managed Valkey in-memory database positioned as low-latency context storage for distributed AI workloads.

Akamai introduced Valkey Managed Database, a fully managed in-memory platform aimed at production AI and multistep agent workflows.

The company argues those workloads suffer high latency and prohibitive GPU costs when they must return to centralized public clouds to fetch context. Running closer to users, the service provides prompt caching, vector-optimized retrieval-augmented generation and real-time state tracking.

Akamai frames the launch around the argument that training a model is not enough once systems reach production, because successful inference depends on fast access to knowledge and state. The service is positioned as the memory layer for globally distributed, personalized AI applications.
