With AI, CIOs Need a New Playbook
TechTarget, Tuesday, August 19th, 2025
IT leaders must restructure operations and avoid vendor lock-in while implementing AI technology.
According to West Monroe's research covering more than 400 business leaders, CIOs should establish AI as a new operating layer, restructure workflows, and tie AI initiatives to business KPIs.
Executives face challenges including lack of trust in the technology, rapid model releases, regulatory risk, and capacity constraints. Rather than committing to single platforms, IT leaders should maintain flexible infrastructure and continuously assess new model releases to avoid costly lock-in.
The focus has shifted from experimentation to demonstrating tangible ROI, with companies starting small and building trusted teams as change influencers.
