SSD Prices Still Rocketing Up Faster Than Disk
TechTarget, Tuesday, August 19th, 2025
Enterprise SSDs are about 6.5x more expensive than a year ago, versus 2.5x for hard drives.
SSD prices rose another 5% in July and now sit roughly 6.5 times higher than a year ago, according to VDURA's Flash Volatility Index, while hard drives rose 5% to about 2.5 times their prior-year cost.
A 30TB TLC enterprise SSD now runs $22,600 against $3,460 in Q3 2025; a comparable HDD went from $495 to $1,216. VDURA calculates a 25PB all-flash architecture at roughly $51.60 million over three years versus $12.86 million for a hybrid SSD-HDD system.
At that spread, storage architecture becomes one of the largest financial decisions in the AI infrastructure stack rather than a technical preference.
