Survey Surfaces Rising Tide of Production Issues Traced Back to AI Code

80% of executives traced a production incident to AI-generated code in the past year.
A Sauce Labs survey of 400 business and engineering executives found 80% have traced a production incident, outage, or customer-impacting defect to AI-generated code within the past 12 months.
Adoption is widespread, with 83% reporting more than 10% of production code generated by AI and 28% running more than a quarter through AI tools.
Testing practice lags deployment speed, however, as only 6% consistently test AI code with AI tools despite 61% testing it at least sometimes. The disconnect creates real business risk, with companies reporting financial impacts exceeding $500,000 from quality incidents including lost contracts, regulatory fines, and negative coverage.
